A resident of Muksudpur upazila has alleged that several fruit and timber trees worth more than Tk1 lakh were cut down from his homestead over a long-standing land dispute with his neighbours.

The incident reportedly occurred in Mochna village of Mochna Union. The complainant, Aminur Rashid (Sabuj), 42, son of the late Golam Sarwar Sheikh, lives in Gazipur with his family due to his job in the garment sector.

According to Rashid, he learned from his nephew Abdullah, 15, on August 11 that the trees had been cut down. He later returned to his village on August 25 and spoke to local residents and relatives before learning details of the incident.

He alleged that his opponents had cut down several trees—including mango, jamun, jackfruit, mahogany and guava trees planted on his homestead land sometime between around 5:30am and 1:30pm on July 27, while he was away.

Rashid filed a written complaint with Muksudpur Police Station on August 26, naming three people—Md Farid Munsi, 55, his son Bishal Munsi, 20, and Fatema Begum, 40—along with two to three unidentified individuals.

A media team visited the site on Saturday and spoke with several local residents. Initial inquiries indicated that the trees had indeed been cut down.

Rashid alleged that the accused have been attempting to occupy his homestead forcibly and have previously threatened him with verbal abuse, injury and even death. He called for a proper investigation and punishment of those responsible.

When contacted, Farid Munsi asked journalists to delete photographs and video footage of the cut trees. He later said the matter could be resolved through a local arbitration process in the presence of community elders.

Muksudpur Police Station Officer-in-Charge Abdullah Al Mamun said legal action would be taken after an investigation.
