The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB)-3 has arrested two people, including the prime accused, in connection with the stabbing death of Qatar expatriate Sifat Ullah, 27, in Dhaka’s Sabujbagh area.
RAB said Md Sajidul Islam Sajid, 24, the second accused, was arrested from the Hajibari-Balurpar area of Khilgaon around 2:00am on September 7, within 12 hours of the incident. Acting on information provided by Sajid, RAB later arrested prime accused Al Amin Hossain Joy, 27, from the Shekher Jaiga Bazar area of Khilgaon around 5:00am.
According to RAB, Sifat had returned to Bangladesh from Qatar about one and a half months ago. He had been in a long-term relationship with Nafiza Sheikh Neha, 23. Sajid had also been in a relationship with Neha for more than four years but was unaware of her relationship with Sifat. He reportedly learned about it at Neha’s birthday celebration on August 25, after which his relationship with her ended.
RAB said Joy knew Neha from their school days and was a senior figure in the locality. He allegedly used to visit Neha’s rented residence with friends and consume drugs there. Sifat reportedly objected to their visits, which created resentment between them.
