A BNP leader has been accused of attempting to occupy land worth several crore taka by constructing a tin-shed shop in front of existing shops in Kaliganj upazila of Lalmonirhat.

Former Kaliganj Upazila Parishad Vice Chairman Debdas Kumar Roy filed a written complaint with Kaliganj Police Station on Monday (14 September), seeking legal action.

According to the complaint, Roy owns around 40 decimals of land near Tushbhandar Bazar beside the Lalmonirhat-Burimari highway. He claimed the property, inherited from his family and valued at around Tk4-5 crore, has been the subject of a legal dispute with Nazrul Islam Chanchal and others for about 13 years.

Roy alleged that Chanchal, a former executive committee member of Tushbhandar Union BNP, arrived at the site with several people early Monday and built a tin-shed shop in front of his existing shops in an attempt to take control of the property.
