Four individuals have been fined a total of Tk 1.65 lakh following a drive against the illegal use of gas and unauthorized connections in Gazipur. During the operation, six "spot kills" (sealing points) used for illegal connections and approximately 100 feet of illegal pipeline were removed. Simultaneously, the illegal connections were severed, cutting off a gas load of approximately 5,250 cubic feet per hour.
The operation was conducted on Wednesday (September 23) from afternoon until evening in the Lakshmipura, Hazirpukur, and Kalmeswar areas of Gazipur.
Led by Nur Nahin Nishad, Assistant Commissioner and Executive Magistrate of the Gazipur Deputy Commissioner's office, the drive was a joint initiative involving the Titas Gas Gazipur office and the district administration. Senior officials from Titas Gas, including Engineer Mostafa Mahbub—Manager of the Titas Gas Gazipur Regional Office—were present during the operation.
Sources related to the operation stated that a raid was first conducted at Intermex Sweater Limited in the Lakshmipura area of the city on Wednesday afternoon. Subsequently, operations in the Hazirpukur and Chhaydana areas resulted in fines totaling Tk 65,000 imposed on three users for illegal gas consumption.
Later, a drive was conducted in the Boardbazar-Kalmeswar area, where one user was fined Tk 1 lakh for illegal gas usage. In total, six 3/4-inch lines were sealed (killed), and approximately 100 feet of illegal pipeline were removed. The disconnected lines included approximately 250 residential dual-burner connections, with a combined hourly load of about 5,250 cubic feet.
Officials involved in the operation stated that such drives to curb illegal gas usage would continue. Relevant agencies are regularly conducting these operations to prevent the illegal use of gas—a state resource—and to protect the interests of legitimate customers.
Although a total of Tk 1.65 lakh in fines was collected during the operation, no formal legal case was filed regarding the incidents.
