Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) has distributed 21 motorcycles among field-level officials and employees to help improve and speed up civic services.
DNCC Administrator Md Shafiqul Islam Khan handed over the motorcycle keys to the recipients at a programme held on Wednesday morning.
Speaking at the event, the administrator said providing motorcycles to field personnel would make it easier to deliver essential services to residents.
The recipients will use the motorcycles for mosquito control, waste management, cleanliness activities and drainage-related services across the city.
Khan said motorcycles would allow officials to reach roads and areas where regular vehicles cannot easily enter, helping DNCC provide faster and more efficient services.
According to DNCC, 21 motorcycles were purchased at a cost of Tk48 lakh under a hire-purchase arrangement in line with the corporation's motorcycle allocation policy.
Of the recipients, seven are from the Revenue Department, six from the Health Department, four from the Engineering Department, two from the Secretary's Office, one from the Waste Management Department and one from the Administrator's Office.
The employees will be able to take ownership of the motorcycles after repaying the loans in 120 instalments.
DNCC Chief Executive Officer Md Asaduzzaman chaired the inauguration programme. Chief Waste Management Officer Mohammad Humayun Kabir, Chief Health Officer Brigadier General Imrul Kayes and other DNCC officials and employees attended the event.
