Dhaka University Pro-Vice Chancellor (Administration) Professor Dr Mohammad Almozzaddedi Alfezani has called on students to promote social awareness on public health, food safety and consumer rights through debate and constructive discussion.
He made the call while speaking as the chief guest at the prize-giving ceremony of an inter-university debate competition held on Saturday (September 19, 2026) at Professor Abdullah Faruk Multipurpose Conference Hall of the Faculty of Business Studies at the University of Dhaka.
The competition was jointly organised by the Dhaka University Debating Society (DUDS) and Dhaka Ahsania Mission.
Professor Alfezani said rational discussions and exchanges of views on social problems and contemporary issues can help identify possible solutions.
He expressed hope that constructive debates on current national and global issues would help students develop their research, analytical and critical-thinking skills.
The event was chaired by DUDS President Md Sajid Hasan.
BSTI Secretary and Director General Kazi Emdadul Haque and Bangladesh Country Lead of the Global Health Advocacy Incubator Muhammad Ruhul Quddus addressed the programme as special guests.
DUDS General Secretary Miftahul Jannat Rifat moderated the event.
A total of eight teams from different universities across the country participated in the three-day competition.
Jahangirnagar University emerged as the champion, while Ahsanullah University of Science and Technology became the runner-up.
