A woman was detained at Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College and Hospital in Dhaka for allegedly wearing a doctor's apron, approaching patients and attempting to lure them to a private clinic.
The woman, identified as Sharmin Akter, 34, was detained by members of the Bangladesh Ansar and Village Defence Force on Wednesday morning. She was later handed over to police for necessary legal action.
Acting on a tip-off at around 10:40am, a three-member Ansar team led by PC Md Sadeq Hossain Bachchu conducted an operation on the hospital's third floor.
During the operation, Ansar members found Sharmin wearing a doctor's apron while on duty at Ward 313. When asked to provide identification or documents proving that she was a doctor at the hospital, she failed to do so.
Hospital authorities subsequently questioned her. She initially claimed to be a doctor but later said that she worked at a private hospital.
According to preliminary information, Sharmin had been moving around different parts of the hospital wearing the apron and talking to patients seeking treatment. She allegedly attempted to persuade some patients to seek treatment at private clinics outside the hospital by making various offers.
After becoming aware of the matter, Ansar members increased surveillance and detained her before informing the hospital authorities.
The Ansar personnel involved in the operation were PC Md Sadeq Hossain Bachchu, APC Md Shafiqul Islam and Ansar Md Akidul Islam.
The woman was subsequently handed over to police through the hospital authorities for legal action.
Ansar members regularly perform security duties at the hospital to help ensure the safety of patients and their attendants. They also remain vigilant against alleged touting, fraud and attempts to mislead patients or take them to other healthcare facilities.
