Gazipur Agricultural University (GAU) has secured joint second place among Bangladeshi universities in the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings 2027, marking another milestone in its growing international recognition. In the global rankings, released today by the UK-based higher education publication Times Higher Education, GAU has been placed in the 1001–1200 band among 2,297 institutions from 118 countries and territories.
The rankings assess universities across five broad areas: teaching, research environment, research quality, industry engagement and international outlook. GAU ranked second among all public and private universities in Bangladesh in the teaching quality indicator. The latest achievement adds to the university’s recent record of success. GAU was named champion in the university category at Bangladesh Innovation Fair 2026, competing with public and private universities across the country. It also ranked first among Bangladesh’s public universities in the Sustainability Impact Ratings 2026, placing 82nd globally in SDG 1, 66th in SDG 2 and within the 101–200 band in SDG 4. GAU also secured top national positions in various categories of the THE World University Rankings 2025 and 2026. In the WURI 2026, it ranked 23rd globally in the Financial Impact Driven Technology Transfer category, as the only Bangladeshi public university listed in the ranking. In the QS World University Sustainability Rankings 2026, GAU ranked first among Bangladesh’s agricultural universities.
Expressing satisfaction over the latest recognition, GAU Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr GKM Mustafizur Rahman said the university’s progress in international rankings reflects the collective efforts of its teachers, researchers, students, officers and staff. “Our second-place national ranking, particularly in teaching quality, is deeply encouraging. It reflects the commitment of the entire university community to improving the quality of education and research,” he said. The Vice-Chancellor added, “For us, rankings are not merely positions or recognitions, they are a mirror that helps us identify where we stand and where we need to improve. Our efforts to build GAU into a world-class agricultural university will continue.”
