A massive fire broke out at a garment factory in the Fakir Market area of Degerchala, within Gazipur Metropolitan City. The fire started on Saturday afternoon in a warehouse located on the third floor of the seven-story building. Personnel from nine Fire Service units brought the blaze under control after an effort lasting approximately three hours and fifteen minutes, rescuing 69 employees and workers from various floors of the building.

According to the Fire Service and locals, the fire originated around 2:45 PM on the third floor of 'Matrix Style Limited,' a garment factory in the Fakir Market area. Workers initially attempted to extinguish the fire themselves but failed and subsequently alerted the Fire Service.

Meanwhile, the fire rapidly spread across the entire third floor, assuming alarming proportions. Thick black smoke billowing from the floor engulfed the factory premises, forcing employees and workers to evacuate the floor and seek shelter on the roof and other levels of the building.

Initially, personnel from two units of the nearby Chowrasta Modern Fire Station arrived at the scene and began firefighting operations. Due to the intensity of the blaze, additional units from the Konabari, Joydebpur, and Rajendrapur Fire Stations arrived to join the effort, bringing the total number of units to nine. Eventually, through the combined efforts of personnel from these four fire stations, the fire was brought under control around 6:00 PM.

Saidul Alam Chowdhury, Deputy Assistant Director of Gazipur Fire Service, stated that the fire started in the third-floor warehouse, which contained fabrics and other materials. Upon receiving the alert, two units from the Chowrasta Modern Fire Station arrived and began firefighting operations; however, due to the severity of the fire, they requested assistance from additional Fire Service units.

Later, personnel from nine units across four stations worked in unison to bring the fire under control by around 6 PM. He stated that it would take more time to extinguish the fire completely, though no casualties have been reported so far.

He added that bringing the fire under control proved difficult due to the lack of natural water sources; firefighting operations relied on water from fire service vehicles and supplies brought in from nearby factories. Furthermore, the condition of the access road to the factory was poor, making it difficult for fully loaded vehicles to reach the site.

The fire service official further noted that the cause of the fire and the extent of the damage could only be determined through an investigation after the fire is fully extinguished.
