A four-year-old child was rescued in an unconscious condition after an alleged attempt to abduct her by luring her with chocolate at Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmad Medical College and Hospital in Gazipur early Saturday.
The incident took place around 2:30am at the surgery ward on the eighth floor of the hospital, where the child's maternal grandfather was undergoing treatment.
According to the complaint, a man identified as Liton Mia allegedly lured the child, Debadrita Das, with chocolate and took her to a bathroom on the eighth floor. After learning about the incident, the child's mother, Jabarani Das, reported the matter to hospital authorities.
Following the complaint, an Ansar patrol team led by Police Constable (PC) Md Golam Mostafa, along with Assistant Police Constable (APC) Md Uzzal Hossain and Ansar members Md Sujon Mia and Md Shakil Haque, launched a search for the child.
After nearly two hours of searching, the team found the child unconscious in a toilet on the eighth floor at around 4:30am and rescued her from Liton Mia.
The child was reportedly unable to speak at the time of the rescue.
Ansar members also reportedly recovered a quantity of cannabis and two mobile phones from Liton Mia.
Liton Mia, son of late Abul Hossain, is from Hotapara area of Joydebpur in Gazipur Sadar upazila.
Police have started legal proceedings in connection with the incident.
