Kishoreganj District Police has launched a campaign to raise drivers’ awareness of traffic laws and promote responsible driving to help prevent road accidents.
Police Superintendent Mohammad Mizanur Rahman inaugurated the campaign, titled “We Need Safe Drivers”, by placing awareness stickers on buses at the Gaital Inter-District Bus Terminal in Kishoreganj town on Sunday afternoon (October 18).
Addressing drivers and helpers after the campaign launch, the police superintendent said driver incompetence and lack of awareness were among the major causes of road accidents.
He said accidents could not be reduced entirely through lawsuits or legal action alone, stressing that changes in the attitudes of drivers and transport owners were essential.
The campaign aims to make drivers more aware and responsible, he added.
Mohammad Mizanur Rahman also said regular drives and legal action would continue against drivers without valid driving licences, unfit vehicles and violations of traffic laws.
Drivers and passengers welcomed the initiative. Several drivers on the Kishoreganj-Dhaka route said awareness messages delivered directly at terminals and on roads could help improve caution and responsibility among drivers, contributing to fewer accidents.
Additional Superintendent of Police (Sadar Circle) Md Shariful Haque, Kishoreganj Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mohammad Abul Kalam Bhuiyan, Traffic Inspector (Administration) Abu Naser Mohammad Zahir, Traffic Inspector Moniruzzaman, Kishoreganj District Road Transport Owners Association President Anisuzzaman Babul, Gaital Inter-District Bus Terminal Convener Humayun Kabir and Joint Convener Rezwanul Alam Joseph, among others, attended the campaign.
