A field day was held in Sreemangal upazila of Moulvibazar to promote improved fennel cultivation and modern agricultural technologies.
The event took place on Sunday afternoon under a project implemented in the 2025–2026 fiscal year, at Lahapara village in Sindurkhan Union.
The program was chaired by Upazila Agriculture Officer Agriculturist Md. Alauddin. Deputy Director Md. Jalal Uddin attended as the chief guest.
Special guests included District Training Officer Jalal Uddin Sarker, Additional Deputy Director Nilufa Yasmin Monalisa Sumi, Chief Scientific Officer of Akbarpur Agricultural Research Institute Dr. Mahmudul Hasan, Agriculture Extension Officer Ujjal Sutrodhar, Chairman of Sindurkhan Union Parishad Iasin Arafat Robin, and Sub-Assistant Agriculture Officer Md. Selim Hossain, among others.
Speakers said fennel is an important cash crop with growing demand in the country, but production still falls short. To address this gap, the government is providing improved seeds and modern technologies to farmers.
Under the project, farmers are being trained on quality seed use, proper planting methods, balanced fertilizer application, pest and disease control, and timely harvesting and storage.
As a result, production is increasing, costs are decreasing, and farmers' incomes are rising.
Agriculture officials also highlighted key practices such as using improved seeds on time, maintaining proper spacing, applying balanced fertilizers, and regular monitoring to control pests and diseases.
The event saw active participation from local farmers, who gained practical knowledge about modern fennel cultivation—expected to play an important role in increasing future production.
