Education is the backbone of the nation, and examinations are the yardstick for testing the strength of that backbone. In the present times, the practice of cheating in examinations has become a national disease. In order to overcome this disease, the reintroduction of the 'Silent Expulsion' or 'Silent Expulsion' system in the 2026 SSC examination is a groundbreaking step. Poet Rabindranath Tagore said, "When education is separated from life and becomes just a mechanical arrangement, it loses its joy." The Silent Expulsion system is basically an attempt to reduce that mechanical rigidity and restore discipline with a touch of humanity.
This is a process where the examinee is not immediately taken out of the hall but is kept in a special part of his notebook with a signal, so that even if he manages to complete the examination, his results are ultimately suspended or canceled. In this article, we will discuss in detail the multifaceted effects of this system.
Benefits of Silent Expulsion: Immediate strict action against a student who behaves badly is often counterproductive. The silent expulsion method protects the student from making suicidal decisions or major accidents during extremely emotional moments, which is one of the main benefits of this method.
Silent expulsion plays an unparalleled role in maintaining the solemnity of the examination hall. The hall inspector performs his work without shouting or chaos, as a result of which the calm and peaceful environment of the hall is not disturbed at all.
The immense social and mental pressure that is usually created on the student when the news of expulsion is known, does not happen immediately with this method. The student gets the opportunity to at least complete the examination with mental relief, which is positive from a human point of view.
This method acts as a shield to prevent distraction and chaos of other examinees in the examination hall. Since it is possible to identify the culprit without any commotion, the study environment of other ordinary students remains intact.
When expelling in the traditional way, a lot of valuable time is spent in legal or administrative formalities. In the silent expel system, the invigilator can perform his duty by giving a quick signal, which ensures time saving. Confidentiality is a strong aspect of this system. The student's mistake is identified very secretly without revealing it to everyone, which temporarily protects the student from severe damage to his personality.
When the students know that silent expel is in operation, a kind of invisible awareness will work among them. Even though there is no immediate visible reaction to being caught, the fear of cancellation of the results keeps them away from cheating.
This system is a unique strategy to prevent cheating. When the invigilator silently marks the student's notebook, the cheating student realizes that his crime has been caught, so he does not dare to cheat anymore. This system is effective in ensuring correct and fair evaluation of talented and hardworking students. By silently eliminating those who try to get marks by cheating, the rights of the truly talented are protected. Silent expel is also helpful in reducing the fear of the examination hall. Many times, even ordinary students get scared due to strict inspections. But since the examination environment remains normal in the silent method, the fear of ordinary students does not work.
This method acts as a shield to protect the social and family dignity of the student. Since the action is taken silently instead of humiliating him in public, at least he is freed from the shame of leaving the examination center with his head bowed.
This method can bring about a silent revolution in increasing discipline in the overall education system. Not fear, but obedience to the rules and the invisible risk of being caught, a sense of discipline is created spontaneously among the examinees.
It is very effective in taking immediate action. Without any delay, the inspector can identify the suspect or the culprit through specific signals, which facilitates the subsequent legal process.
Disadvantages of Silent Expulsion: One of the main disadvantages of this method is the waste of time and effort. Allowing a student to take a full three-hour exam, knowing that he or she is eligible for expulsion, and then allowing him or her to participate in subsequent exams and then canceling them can be considered a waste of time and national resources.
Silent expulsion is like a mirage. The student thinks that he is taking the exam and will succeed, but in the end his paper is not evaluated. This false hope can later plunge him into even greater disappointment. The post-exam stress increases manifold in this system. When the student does not get the result or his result is canceled, it is often impossible to overcome the deep mental crisis that he falls into.
Sometimes this system creates a kind of false certainty among the students. The student may think that he has not been caught, this misconception can lead him to bigger mistakes or injustices in the future.
There is room for misunderstanding in the silent expulsion system. Due to the lack of proper communication between the teacher and the student, many times the student does not know that he has actually been expelled, which creates complications later.
The ultimate form of this system is the result disaster. A student may work hard but may fall victim to silent expulsion due to a small mistake, due to which his entire academic year is completely failed.
In many cases, a lack of detailed investigation is observed. Since it is done immediately and silently, the student has almost no opportunity to defend himself, which can often be a unilateral decision.
When a student comes to know that he has been subjected to silent expulsion after the results are released, there is a sudden panic and shock in him. Not all students have the ability to withstand this suddenness. There is a lack of opportunity to correct mistakes in the silent expel method. While in other expulsion methods, the student gets the opportunity to apologize immediately or correct himself, here that path is blocked.
In this system, there is a risk of bias on the part of the inspector. If the inspector, due to some personal resentment or misconception, signals the account of an innocent student, then that student will suffer irreparable damage.
The creation of confusion among students and parents is a major problem with this method. The exact reason for the suspension of results is often not communicated in time, which creates confusion and dissatisfaction in the public mind.
There is a great fear of ruining the future here. Due to a specific signal, a student's lifelong dream can be shattered, which is an irreparable waste of talent for the society and the country.
A tendency to make irrational decisions can sometimes be created in this method. Since there is no immediate excitement in the hall, many times the corner of the book is marked without deep judgment and analysis, which is against justice.
Lack of transparency is a weak point of silent expulsion. Many times, no specific evidence or record is preserved as to why and under what circumstances the student was silently expelled, which can question the entire process. Just as the silent expulsion method is a technique for maintaining moral discipline, it is important to be very careful in its application. In the words of Jibanananda Das, "There is one place in this world-the most beautiful is the pitiful." Educational life is also beautiful and sensitive. Our goal should be to correct the offender, not destroy him. All concerned should be vigilant that silent expulsion should not be just a tool of punishment but a means of bringing the student back on the right path. If this method is implemented with a combination of transparency, impartiality and humanity, the country's education system will be richer and free from stigma. Inspired by the spirit of patriotism, we dream of building a society where merit will triumph and immorality will be banished forever.
