Information Minister Zahir Uddin Swapan inaugurated the measles-rubella vaccination program in Agailjhara, Barisal. The Information Minister said that the government is working to ensure the good health of the people.
In order to protect the health of children, the government has immediately undertaken a nationwide measles-rubella vaccination program. The Information Minister said these things in his speech as the chief guest at the inauguration of the special vaccination program to prevent the measles outbreak at the Agailjhara Upazila Health Complex ground in Barisal at 10 am on Monday, April 20. He said that in 1979, the then President late Ziaur Rahman took a groundbreaking step in protecting the health of the country's children.
He launched the measles vaccination program for children for the first time in Bangladesh through EPI. As a result of this initiative, significant progress was made in reducing the country's child mortality rate and preventing infectious diseases. This step by Ziaur Rahman opened a new horizon in the public health system of Bangladesh.
In that continuation, this nationwide program has started with the inauguration of the measles vaccination program from Bogra today under the leadership of the current Prime Minister. He further said, our main objective is to bring children under the measles vaccination. Because if this infection cannot be prevented, it will quickly spread among children, especially children who are suffering from malnutrition.
There will be no shortage of measles vaccination across the country, he said. Urging parents to be aware of the importance of vaccination, he said that children aged 6 months to 5 years (up to 59 months) must be brought under this vaccination. Measles prevention is not possible by just getting their own children vaccinated, but all children must be brought under vaccination to build immunity.
The program was presided over by Agailjhara Upazila Nirbahi Officer Likhon Banik. Barisal Divisional Health Director Dr. Shyamal Krishna Mondal, Civil Surgeon Dr. SM Manjur-e-Elahi, District Police Superintendent A, Z, M Mostafizur Rahman, Deputy Commissioner, Health Department Deputy Director Dr. Mohammad Lokman Hakim.
