Colorful rally and discussion meeting on the occasion of National Nutrition Week celebration in Barisal

A colorful rally was taken out from the premises of the Deputy Commissioner's Office on the occasion of National Nutrition Week-2026 in Barisal with the theme 'End the days of nutrition inequality, build a self-reliant Bangladesh'. After the rally, a discussion meeting was held at the conference room of the Civil Surgeon's Office on Thursday, April 23 at 10 am, organized by the Public Health Nutrition Institute and implemented by the Barisal Civil Surgeon's Office. 

The meeting was presided over by Barisal Civil Surgeon Dr. SM Manjur-e-Elahi. Stressing the importance of developing nutritious eating habits, the Civil Surgeon said in his presidential speech that it is very important to include vegetables and fruits in daily meals to ensure a healthy life. 

Nutritional value should be maintained at every stage from food production to transportation, storage and cooking. At this time, he also commented that the habit of washing hands thoroughly before eating should be developed. He also said that in addition to limiting the amount of sugar and salt in the diet, one should avoid excessively fried, oily and fast food. 

To ensure good health, one should refrain from over-processed foods and soft drinks. Highlighting the importance of child nutrition, the Civil Surgeon said that the baby should be fed breast milk within one hour of birth. For the first 6 months, only breast milk is sufficient for the baby. 

After 6 months, nutritious home-made food should be fed along with breast milk. He also mentioned that feeding one egg every day is important for the physical and mental development of the child. The meeting was moderated by Deputy Civil Surgeon Dr. Md. Shawkat Ali. 

The meeting was attended by Additional Superintendent of Police Md. Alaul Hasan, Additional District Livestock Officer Jui Dutta, Surveillance and Immunization Medical Officer of the World Health Organization Dr. Md. Faisal Kabir, officials of various government departments, representatives of non-governmental development organizations and media personnel.
