Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) has announced a series of public hearings to evaluate proposals for adjusting electricity prices at the bulk, transmission, and retail levels. The hearings are scheduled to take place on May 20 and 21, 2023, at the KIB Auditorium (Krishibid Institution Bangladesh) in Khamarbari, Dhaka.
The commission initiated this process following formal proposals submitted by various state-owned entities.
The Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB) has submitted proposals for both bulk and retail price adjustments, while Power Grid Bangladesh PLC (PGCB) has proposed changes to electricity transmission charges. Additionally, several distribution companies—including DPDC, DESCO, WZPDCO, NESCO, and the Bangladesh Rural Electrification Board (BREB)—have applied for changes to retail electricity rates.
Hearing Schedule:
May 20 (10:00 AM – 1:00 PM): Discussion on BPDB’s bulk electricity price adjustment.
May 20 (2:00 PM – 5:00 PM): Discussion on PGCB’s electricity transmission price adjustment.
May 21 (10:00 AM – 5:00 PM): Discussion on retail electricity price adjustments for BPDB, BREB, DPDC, DESCO, WZPDCO, and NESCO.
Interested individuals and organizations were invited to submit their written opinions and data to the commission by May 18, 2023. Those wishing to participate or testify during the hearings were required to register their names by May 17, 2023.
Copies of the price adjustment proposals are available for public review at the BERC office and can also be downloaded from their official website at www.berc.org.bd. The commission has encouraged the presence of authorized representatives and stakeholders to ensure a transparent evaluation of the proposed hikes.
