The Barishal District Nutrition Coordination Committee held a meeting on Thursday at the conference room of the Deputy Commissioner's office, organized with support from the Transforming Lives GLU Nutrition Project.
The meeting was chaired by Additional Deputy Commissioner Salma Parveen, who stressed the importance of ensuring nutritious food for pregnant women to help build a healthy and talented future generation.
She said that many children suffering from physical disabilities are affected by malnutrition and highlighted the need for balanced nutrition, regular health check-ups, and greater awareness among expectant mothers from the early stages of pregnancy.
Parveen noted that malnutrition not only affects individuals but also hampers a country's overall development. She emphasized that along with the effective involvement of relevant government agencies, family members must also be made aware of nutrition-related issues.
She added that increasing public awareness and ensuring easy access to nutritious food would help develop a healthy, strong, and productive generation.
Barishal Civil Surgeon Dr. S.M. Monjur-E-Elahi delivered the welcome address.
Among those present were Meherun Nahar Munni, Deputy Director of the Department of Women Affairs; Dr. Md. Hadiuzzaman, District Fisheries Officer; Rajan Roy, Assistant Commissioner of the District Administration; officials from various government departments, representatives of non-governmental organizations, and members of the media.
