An anti-drug awareness seminar was organized by the Youth Development Council, Dhaka on the occasion of International Anti-Drug Day at the National Press Club. At the event, freedom fighter Md. Anwar Hossain, DIG of Police (Retd.), emphasized on the joint role of family, society, law enforcement and youth in building a drug-free society.
An anti-drug awareness seminar was organized by the Youth Development Council, Dhaka on the occasion of International Anti-Drug Day at the National Press Club. The main theme of the seminar was - social prevention, joint efforts to build a drug-free society through effective implementation of the law and awareness.
At the event, freedom fighter Md. Anwar Hossain, DIG of Police (Retd.), highlighted the terrible effects of drugs, the risks to the youth and the need for joint efforts to prevent drugs in the society. He said that drugs not only destroy the life of an individual, it also hinders the progress of the family, society and the state. Therefore, in addition to enforcing the law to prevent drugs, it is important to strengthen family education, social awareness and moral values.
He also said that educational institutions, families, social organizations and the media should work together to make the young generation aware of the ill effects of drugs. The anti-drug movement should not be limited to just a day-long event but should be transformed into regular social programs.
The speakers at the seminar emphasized strict enforcement of laws to control drugs, social resistance against drug dealers, rehabilitation of addicts and involving the youth in positive activities. They said that ensuring a drug-free environment is the need of the hour to build a healthy, safe and humane society.
The Youth Development Council, Dhaka, informed that awareness activities, discussion meetings and social initiatives for the youth will continue in the future.
