A press conference was held in Rajshahi on Tuesday (June 30) to announce the upcoming "Run for Padma (Save The Ganges)" 7.5-kilometer mini marathon, aimed at raising public awareness about protecting the historic Padma River and all rivers across Bangladesh.
The event took place at Padma Garden at 11:00 AM, where the organizers briefed journalists on the objectives, route map, and overall preparations for the mini marathon.
The organizers stated that protecting the Padma and other rivers is essential not only for environmental conservation but also for the country's long-term sustainability and the well-being of future generations. The event seeks to raise public awareness about river conservation, address navigability issues, prevent river encroachment and pollution, and demand Bangladesh's fair share of water from international transboundary rivers.
Expressing gratitude to the journalists and media representatives present at the press conference, the organizers called for the cooperation of all sectors of society in this movement to protect the country's rivers. They expressed hope that the "Run for Padma (Save The Ganges)" initiative would spread the message of river conservation nationwide, encouraging people to unite behind the slogan: "Save the Rivers, Save the Nation."
The written statement was presented by Md. Golam Mostafa Mamun, Chief Adviser of the organization and General Secretary of the Rajshahi Press Club. Among others, Zulfikar Haider, President of the organization, also addressed the press conference.
