Barishal City Corporation (BCC) Administrator Advocate Bilkis Akter Jahan Shirin on Sunday inaugurated the National Vitamin A Plus Campaign 2026 at Alhaj Dalil Uddin Girls' Secondary School in Ward No. 5 of the city.
Speaking as the chief guest, Shirin stressed that no eligible child should be left out of the campaign, saying every child—from urban areas to remote communities—has the right to receive Vitamin A capsules. She said the city corporation has completed all necessary preparations for the successful implementation of the programme.
Highlighting the importance of Vitamin A supplementation, she urged parents to ensure their children receive the capsules on time, noting that healthy children are the foundation of a healthy society and a prosperous nation.
The programme was chaired by BCC Chief Executive Officer Md. Rezaul Bari. Dr. Md. Saiful Hasan, Assistant Director of the Divisional Health Director's Office, and Dr. Md. Fazle Rabbi, Medical Officer of Barishal City Corporation, attended as special guests. Local political leaders, representatives of development organisations, and media personnel were also present.
Under the campaign, Vitamin A capsules will be administered to approximately 58,710 children through 220 centres across the city. Of them, 8,950 children aged 6–11 months will receive a blue Vitamin A capsule, while 49,760 children aged 12–59 months will receive a red capsule. The campaign will run from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm at designated centres.
