A human chain was held in front of the National Press Club in Dhaka on Saturday, demanding the construction of a six-lane highway from Bhanga to Kuakata along with several other development projects for the Barishal region.
The demonstration, organized by the Barishal District Association, took place from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm.
In addition to the six-lane highway, the demonstrators called for the construction of a railway line from Dhaka to Kuakata, the upgrading of Sher-e-Bangla Medical College in Barishal into a university, the construction of the Barishal-Bhola Bridge, measures to protect Barishal from river erosion, the supply of natural gas discovered in Bhola to Barishal, and the establishment of an Export Processing Zone (EPZ) in Barishal.
The human chain was joined by several organizations, including the Dhaka-based Barishal Divisional Association, Barishal Divisional Journalists' Association, Barishal Divisional Tax Lawyers' Association, Patuakhali Zila Samitee, Dakshinbangla Forum, and representatives from various upazila- and district-level organizations.
Moazzem Hossain Alal, Adviser to the Chairperson of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), addressed the gathering.
Dr. Enayet Karim, President of the Barishal Zila Samitee, served as the chief coordinator of the programme.
