Dhaka University Geography and Environment Department Professor Dr. Nazmun Nahar passed away at 12:15 pm on Friday, July 17, 2026 while undergoing treatment at a hospital in the capital (Inna Lillahi wa Inna Ilaihi Rajiun). He had been suffering from cancer for a long time. He was 52 years old at the time of his death. He is survived by his husband, two sons, and numerous students, relatives, and well-wishers.
Dhaka University Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. ABM Obaidul Islam has expressed deep grief over the death of Geography and Environment Department Professor Dr. Nazmun Nahar. In a condolence message, the Vice Chancellor said that he was a dedicated teacher and researcher. He will be remembered for his contributions to education and research. The Vice Chancellor prayed for the eternal peace of the departed soul and expressed his deepest condolences to the bereaved family members.
It is to be noted that the body of the late professor will be brought to the Department of Geography and Environment at 12:00 noon today, Saturday, for teachers and students to pay their respects. After Zuhr, the funeral prayers will be held at the central mosque of Dhaka University, Masjidul Jamia, and he will be buried at the Azimpur graveyard.
