Md Shahin Sagor, Rajshahi Bureau: A heartwarming act of compassion by the Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) of Durgapur in Rajshahi has won widespread appreciation after she held the infant of a job applicant throughout a written examination, allowing the child's mother to take the test without worry.
The incident took place on Saturday during the written examination for the Family Card Information Collection Programme in Durgapur Upazila.
According to witnesses, the female candidate arrived at the examination centre with her young child as she had no one to look after the baby. Noticing her predicament before the examination began, Durgapur UNO Umme Habiba Farzana stepped forward and took the child into her arms.
The UNO cared for the child throughout the examination, enabling the mother to complete the test without distraction or anxiety.
The gesture drew praise from fellow candidates, officials and guardians present at the centre, many describing it as an inspiring example of humane public service.
Speaking to this correspondent, UNO Umme Habiba Farzana said, "Our priority is to ensure that no candidate is deprived of the opportunity to sit for the examination because of personal circumstances. It would be unfortunate if a mother had to miss an important examination simply because she had no one to care for her child. I only fulfilled my humanitarian responsibility, and I am happy that she was able to take the test with peace of mind."
Local residents said the initiative reflected a citizen-friendly approach to public administration and sent a positive message that compassion and professionalism can go hand in hand in public service.
