Barrister Shihab Uddin Khan named Deputy Attorney General

Barrister Shihab Uddin Khan, an advocate of the Supreme Court of Bangladesh and a resident of Genda in Savar, has been appointed as a Deputy Attorney General (DAG) of Bangladesh.

The appointment was announced through a notification issued by the Solicitor Wing of the Law and Justice Division under the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs on July 30. The notification stated that, under Article 3(1) of the Bangladesh Law Officers Order, 1972, the President appointed Barrister Shihab Uddin Khan as Deputy Attorney General. He will serve in the position until further orders.

Born on December 20, 1984, Barrister Shihab completed his SSC and HSC from Savar Cantonment Public School and College before earning a BA (Honours) in English from Jahangirnagar University. He later obtained an LLB (Honours) from the University of London and completed the Bar Professional Training Course at the University of the West of England, Bristol, qualifying as a Barrister-at-Law. He also holds a Master's degree in Governance Studies and a Postgraduate Diploma in International Relations from the University of Dhaka.

Barrister Shihab currently heads Shihab Khan & Co. Chambers and is a member of the Honourable Society of Lincoln's Inn. He is also affiliated with the Supreme Court Bar Association, Dhaka Bar Association, Dhaka Taxes Bar Association and the Bangladesh Bar Council.

Alongside his legal career, he serves as an elected Senate member of Jahangirnagar University and General Secretary of the Jahangirnagar University Lawyers' Association. He is also involved with several professional and social organisations, including the Nationalist Lawyers' Forum, Amnesty International UK, and other educational and civic bodies.

In addition to his legal practice, Barrister Shihab is a regular commentator on television talk shows and frequently participates in national and international seminars and conferences as an analyst on public policy and politics. He also serves as a consultant to several domestic and international research organisations.
