The two-day 2nd International Conference titled 'Philosophy for Peace', jointly organized by Bangladesh Philosophical Society (BPS) and Mohammadi Kafela Oikya Parishad, has begun today, Saturday, August 1, 2026, at the Student-Teacher Center Auditorium of Dhaka University. Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. ABM Obaidul Islam inaugurated the conference.
BPS President Professor Dr. Shah Kawsar Mustafa Abul Ulayi presided over the inaugural session, with Information and Broadcasting Minister Zahir Uddin Swapan as the chief guest and State Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change Sheikh Faridul Islam as the guest of honor.
Jahangirnagar University Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Mohammad Kamrul Ahsan, National University Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. ASM Amanullah and Bangladesh Open University Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Mohammad Siddiqur Rahman Khan spoke as the special guest. Dhaka University Philosophy Department Chairman Professor Md. Nuruzzaman and Mohammadi Kafela Pradhan Khadem A.R.M. Kamrul Islam delivered the welcome address.
BPS General Secretary Professor Dr. Mohammad Hafizul Islam expressed the vote of thanks. Philosophy Department teachers Muhammad Wahidul Alam and G. M. Bayezid Islam conducted the program.
Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. A.B.M. Obaidul Islam highlighted the importance of philosophy in building a humane and knowledge-based society and said that everyone should come forward in the practice of philosophy to establish world peace. He said that it is very important to have the moral spirit of philosophy along with science to build a prosperous Bangladesh and a peaceful world.
Information and Broadcasting Minister Zahir Uddin Swapan said that philosophy develops people as real human beings. A humane and general philosophy is needed for peace. It is through this philosophy that it is possible to restore permanent peace in the world.
State Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change Sheikh Faridul Islam said, philosophy enriches people with true human qualities. It helps to make life orderly. Along with the progress of science, it will be possible to ensure sustainable peace in the world only if moral values and the practice of philosophy are increased. He called on everyone to inspire the new generation with a sense of responsibility and patriotism in order to build a prosperous country and a beautiful environment.
