Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed on Monday said law enforcement and security agencies have been placed on high alert across the country ahead of 5 August to ensure public safety and maintain law and order.
Speaking to reporters at the Secretariat, the minister said the government has taken all necessary measures to ensure a peaceful environment. Police and other security agencies have been instructed to strengthen vigilance, keep police vehicles attended at all times, and remain fully prepared to respond to any untoward incidents.
He said a high-level coordination meeting involving government agencies, law enforcement officials, and other stakeholders will be held to assess the overall security situation and finalize preparations for the day.
Referring to the recent recovery of bomb-like objects in Motijheel and Ashulia, Salahuddin Ahmed said the incidents appeared to be attempts to create panic and disrupt social stability. He said investigations are underway to identify those responsible and determine whether the incidents are connected.
The minister also said intelligence and law enforcement agencies are closely monitoring the activities of banned organisations and certain groups operating from abroad. Further details will be disclosed after the investigations are completed.
