Measles death toll hits 867

Bangladesh’s ongoing measles outbreak has claimed four more lives in the past 24 hours, raising the overall death toll to 867, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

The latest fatalities, reported in Dhaka division and Dhaka district, include two suspected and two clinically confirmed measles deaths. The total number of suspected deaths has now reached 769, while confirmed deaths stand at 98.

The DGHS recorded 677 new suspected measles cases in the 24 hours to 8:00am Saturday, bringing the overall suspected case tally to 135,332. Another 99 confirmed cases were reported, taking the total confirmed infections to 17,040.

Since March 15, a total of 117,444 suspected measles patients have been hospitalised nationwide. Of them, 113,200 have recovered and been discharged, according to the DGHS.
