Prime Minister Tarek Rahman visited a dengue prevention stall set up by Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) at the South Plaza of the National Parliament Complex on National Dengue Prevention Day.
After inaugurating the nationwide dengue prevention campaign from the South Plaza, the Prime Minister visited the DNCC stall, where DNCC Chief Health Officer Brigadier General Md. Imrul Kayes briefed him on the corporation’s dengue prevention measures and various tools being used to combat the disease.
Meanwhile, DNCC has launched a citywide dengue prevention drive involving around 1,500 members divided into 24 teams. The teams have begun door-to-door inspections, source reduction and public awareness activities across 54 wards under 10 zones.
The DNCC campaign was launched in line with the Prime Minister’s inauguration of the nationwide dengue prevention programme.
On the occasion of National Dengue Prevention Day, DNCC’s Health Department has also launched special mosquito-control activities. Under the initiative, special source-reduction, destruction of Aedes mosquito breeding sites and larvicide application are being carried out in Zone-5, particularly in and around the National Parliament area and other high-risk locations.
Special mosquito-control operations have also begun across all 10 DNCC zones and 54 wards, with priority given to identified high-risk areas, potential Aedes breeding sites and previously detected hotspots.
The campaign is focusing not only on mosquito control but also on identifying and eliminating Aedes breeding grounds, removing stagnant water and applying appropriate larvicides where necessary, with source reduction being given the highest priority.
