Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) conducted a special citywide campaign on Saturday to destroy Aedes mosquito larvae and curb the spread of dengue on the occasion of National Dengue Prevention Day.

The daylong drive was carried out in several areas, including Manik Mia Avenue, the airport area, Monipuripara, Rajabazar, Lalmatia, Iqbal Road, Humayun Road, Mohammadpur and Agargaon.

During the drive, a shop in the airport area was found to have Aedes mosquito larvae, and the authorities fined the shopkeeper Tk 500.

As part of the campaign, source reduction and larviciding activities were conducted across 54 wards under DNCC’s 10 zones. Mosquito-control supervisors and workers, along with members of BNCC and Scouts, carried out door-to-door inspections, checked rooftop gardens, distributed leaflets and conducted public awareness campaigns through loudspeakers.

The teams also applied Novaluron tablets to potential mosquito breeding sites and provided dengue-prevention guidance to students at various educational institutions.

Around 1,500 workers, divided into 24 teams under the leadership of DNCC’s Health Department, participated in the daylong campaign across the city.
