A meeting of the Barishal District Law and Order Committee was held on Sunday morning at the conference room of the Deputy Commissioner’s office, with Deputy Commissioner Md. Mamun Khandakar in the chair.

Speaking at the meeting, the Deputy Commissioner expressed concern over the growing impact of drug abuse on young people, warning that it is causing serious social damage and contributing to rising crime.

He called for a stronger social movement against drugs and urged law enforcement agencies to intensify their efforts to curb drug-related activities.

Discussing environmental pollution, the Deputy Commissioner said the widespread use of polythene in everyday activities is posing a serious threat to the environment. He stressed the need to increase public awareness and strengthen efforts to reduce the use of banned polythene bags.

On the dengue situation, he urged people to keep homes, offices, educational institutions and surrounding areas clean. He particularly warned that stagnant water during the rainy season can create breeding grounds for mosquitoes and increase the risk of dengue and other mosquito-borne diseases.

The Deputy Commissioner also described human trafficking as a serious social and humanitarian problem. He called for greater public awareness so that vulnerable and impoverished people are not deceived by traffickers with false promises of employment.

He urged the local administration, law enforcement agencies and relevant government departments to work together to strengthen monitoring of vulnerable groups and prevent trafficking.

The meeting was attended by Barishal District Police Superintendent A.Z.M. Mostafizur Rahman, Civil Surgeon Dr. Md. Saiyedur Rahman, BMP Deputy Commissioner of Police Sushanta Sarkar, Deputy Director of the Department of Women Affairs Meherun Nahar Munni, along with officials from various government departments, political leaders, and media representatives.

Additional District Magistrate Upoma Farisa moderated the meeting.
