State Minister for Information and Broadcasting Yasser Khan Choudhury has said there is no shortage of fertilizer in the country and directed authorities to strengthen monitoring to ensure its proper distribution among farmers.
He made the remarks as chief guest at Jamalpur district’s monthly law-and-order coordination meeting at the Deputy Commissioner’s conference room on Sunday. Deputy Commissioner and District Magistrate Mohammad Yusuf Ali chaired the meeting.
The state minister stressed the need to ensure timely fertilizer supplies according to farmers’ demand and warned against irregularities and attempts to create an artificial shortage.
“The government has adequate fertilizer stocks to maintain agricultural production and protect farmers’ interests. There is no reason to be concerned about a shortage,” he said.
On law and order, Yasser Khan Choudhury said necessary manpower and vehicles would be provided in phases to strengthen law enforcement agencies.
He identified drug abuse as a major driver of crime and called for coordinated efforts involving the administration, law enforcement agencies and the public to combat the problem.
He also instructed authorities to form grassroots-level committees, where necessary, to assist law enforcement agencies in preventing drug abuse.
