Eighty University of Dhaka students have received research grants and scholarships under the IFIC Bank Trust Fund for the 2022-23 and 2023-24 academic years.
Of them, 50 students received research grants and 30 received scholarships. For each academic year, 25 students were awarded research grants and 15 received scholarships.
The awards were handed over at the “IFIC Bank Research Grant and Scholarship Award Ceremony 2026” held at the conference room of Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Building on Monday.
DU Treasurer Prof Dr M Jahangir Alam Chowdhury presided over the programme. He urged the grant recipients to focus on publishing their research findings in high-quality international journals, particularly Q1 and Q2 journals.
He said quality research and publications could create new opportunities for students in higher education and research. He also called on IFIC Bank to expand the amount and coverage of its research grants and scholarships.
The treasurer noted that many DU students come from financially disadvantaged families and said scholarships and research grants from various trust funds play an important role in helping them continue their education and research. He described the support not only as financial assistance but also as recognition of students’ merit and capabilities.
DU Faculty of Business Studies Dean Prof Al Amin, Faculty of Engineering and Technology Dean Prof Dr Saifuddin Md Tariq, IFIC Bank Deputy Managing Director Md Monitur Rahman and IFIC Bank Head of Branch Helal Ahmed attended the programme as special guests.
DU Acting Registrar Munsi Shams Uddin Ahmed moderated the event.
The 50 research grant recipients are from the departments of Oceanography, Disaster Science and Climate Resilience, Meteorology, Nuclear Engineering, and Robotics and Mechatronics Engineering.
The 30 scholarship recipients are from the departments of Banking and Insurance, Management Information Systems, International Business, Tourism and Hospitality Management, and Organization Strategy and Leadership.
The IFIC Bank Trust Fund supports students in research and education at the University of Dhaka as part of its academic and institutional support initiatives.
