Deputy Speaker of Parliament Barrister Kaiser Kamal has urged students to go beyond academic learning and develop their intellect, character and sense of responsibility toward their families and society.
He made the remarks while speaking as the chief guest at an exchange meeting with students and teachers of Susang Adarsha Bidyaniketan in Durgapur municipality of Netrokona on Monday.
Kamal said education is the foundation for building a successful life and students should study attentively to bring honour to themselves, their families and society.
Referring to the name of the institution, he said students should uphold the values reflected in “Adarsha Bidyaniketan” by becoming educated, principled and responsible citizens.
The Deputy Speaker said Durgapur and Kalmakanda had remained relatively neglected areas for a long time and many educational institutions in the region faced infrastructural limitations. He said efforts were being made within available resources to address these challenges.
He said an initiative had been taken to improve the road in front of the school to reduce the difficulties faced by students travelling to and from the institution. He also assured that efforts would continue to support the school’s overall development.
Addressing the students, Kamal said school plays a vital role in a student’s life and good results at the secondary and higher secondary levels can help students pursue higher education. He urged them to make proper use of their time and study regularly.
He also asked students to appreciate the sacrifices their parents make to provide them with education, noting that children from financially disadvantaged families can also succeed through perseverance, hard work and dedication.
The Deputy Speaker urged students to stay away from drugs and called for collective efforts to build a drug-free society. He also encouraged families to help relatives involved with drugs return to normal life.
Regarding the school’s infrastructure, Kamal said steps would be taken to identify a suitable site for construction of a school building in consultation with engineers. He also said he would try to provide personal support for installing solar panels to help address the school’s electricity problems.
He called on students to make a fresh commitment from that day to become educated, honest and good citizens and to build their lives in a way that would make their families, society and country proud.
The meeting was chaired by Ainul Haque Bulbul, president of the school’s ad hoc committee. Durgapur Upazila Nirbahi Officer Ahmed Sadat and Upazila Secondary Education Officer Bazlur Rahman Ansari also spoke at the event.
Teachers and students of the school, local administration officials, political leaders and journalists from print, electronic and online media attended the programme.
