A local Chhatra Dal leader was found dead in Chakaria, Cox’s Bazar, around four hours after he was allegedly abducted, with police detaining four people for questioning.
The deceased, Isfatul Islam Jisan, 28, was a resident of Kakara union and reportedly served as senior joint convener of the Kakara Union Chhatra Dal.
According to family members and local sources, Jisan was allegedly taken away by several people in a white microbus from in front of a shop in the Kakara area at around 11:30pm on Sunday.
Police recovered his body from the Kachhapia Dhala area of the Chattogram-Cox’s Bazar highway in Khutakhali early Monday, about four hours after the alleged abduction.
Police and local sources said the body bore signs of injuries and was found with his hands and legs tied.
The victim’s family alleged that Jisan was taken to Kabir Tower in Sabujbagh area of Chakaria municipality, where he was tortured and killed before his body was dumped beside the highway. The allegations have not yet been independently verified, and police are investigating the circumstances.
Chakaria police said the body was recovered and arrangements were made for legal procedures and an autopsy. Investigators are working to determine the motive and identify those involved.
Chakaria Police Station Officer-in-Charge said four members of the victim’s family have been brought into police custody for preliminary questioning. Further details are expected as the investigation progresses.
