A Kacchi Dine restaurant in Joydebpur, Gazipur, has been fined Tk 2 lakh for preparing and storing food in unhygienic conditions and for several other food safety violations.
A mobile court of the Bangladesh Food Safety Authority conducted the drive at the restaurant in the Joydebpur bus stand area on Sunday. Executive Magistrate and Deputy Director B.M. Ruhul Amin Rimon led the operation.
During the inspection, officials found the restaurant’s kitchen extremely dirty and unhygienic, with the presence of rats and cockroaches. They also found expired condensed milk with evidence of date tampering being stored and used at the restaurant.
Officials further found meat stored in refrigerators without proper labels. The restaurant authorities also failed to produce a fire licence and restaurant registration certificate during the inspection.
As the restaurant authorities admitted to the violations, the mobile court imposed a Tk 2 lakh fine under the Food Safety Act, 2013. The fine was collected immediately.
