The University of Dhaka held a daylong training workshop for newly recruited faculty members on Wednesday, focusing on teaching responsibilities, academic preparation and research-oriented education.
The workshop, titled “Induction Workshop for Newly Recruited Faculty Members,” was organised by the university’s Institutional Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) at the Nawab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Building auditorium.
Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Education) Prof Dr Abdus Salam inaugurated the workshop as the chief guest.
IQAC Director Prof Dr SM Hafizur Rahman chaired the inaugural session, while Dean of the Faculty of Arts Prof Dr Md Abul Kalam Sarkar addressed the event as a special guest. University Grants Commission member Prof Dr Abdullah-Al-Mamun presented the keynote paper. IQAC Additional Director Dr Mustak Ibn Ayub delivered the vote of thanks.
Prof Abdus Salam urged newly recruited teachers to avoid discriminatory or biased behaviour toward students, stressing that teaching is not merely a profession but a major responsibility.
He called on teachers to prepare adequately for classes and continuously enrich their knowledge. The university, he said, aims to become a research-based institution and achieve international standards in education and research.
A total of 108 newly recruited teachers from different departments participated in the workshop.
