Noakhali Science and Technology University (NSTU) yesterday launched a mosquito control drive and organised a workshop as part of a dengue prevention programme.
The workshop was held at July Shaheed Smriti Chhatri Hall as part of a government initiative to prevent dengue and other mosquito-borne diseases.
NSTU Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Golam Rabbani attended the programme as the chief guest.
“Prevention is more important than treatment when it comes to dengue. The university administration has taken several initiatives to prevent dengue and other mosquito-borne diseases, including cleanliness drives and awareness programmes,” he said.
He urged teachers, students, officers and employees to keep their surroundings clean and refrain from throwing waste indiscriminately.
Pro-Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Muhammad Shafiqul Islam and Treasurer Prof Dr Md Hassan Uddin also spoke at the workshop.
Dr Nahid Sultana, provost of the hall, and teachers, students, officers and employees of the university were also present.
Earlier in the day, Prof Rabbani inaugurated the mosquito control drive using fogging machines in front of the university’s administrative building. He also led a cleanliness campaign as part of the dengue prevention programme.
