German Ambassador to Bangladesh Dr. Rüdiger Lotz paid a courtesy call on Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. A B M Obaidul Islam today, Wednesday, September 30, 2026 at the Vice-Chancellor’s office.
During the meeting, they discussed ways to further strengthen academic and research collaboration between the University of Dhaka and German universities and institutions with particular emphasis on student and faculty exchanges, scholarships, joint research and skills development.
The Vice-Chancellor briefed the German Ambassador on the University of Dhaka’s academic and research activities and its efforts to expand international collaboration. He emphasized the importance of enhancing cooperation with German higher education institutions through joint research, academic exchange programmes and scholarship opportunities for students and researchers.
Professor Dr. Obaidul Islam also highlighted the University’s initiatives to improve foreign-language education and strengthen industry-academia linkages so that students can acquire knowledge and practical skills relevant to the changing demands of the job market.
Ambassador Dr. Rüdiger Lotz appreciated the academic and research activities of the University of Dhaka and discussed opportunities for Bangladeshi students and researchers to pursue higher study and research in Germany. He emphasized the importance of making university education more responsive to the needs of industry and developing skilled human resources.
The Ambassador also discussed the growing demand for skilled professionals in Germany and the potential for expanding opportunities for international students through higher education, training and scholarship programmes. He expressed interest in strengthening educational and research links between German and Bangladeshi institutions.
The meeting also covered possibilities of cooperation in skills development, scholarships, student and faculty mobility, industry-academia collaboration and joint academic initiatives.
The Vice-Chancellor and the German Ambassador expressed hope that existing ties between the University of Dhaka and German institutions would be further strengthened through increasing academic, research and institutional cooperation.
