Noting that South Asian countries will benefit from activating SAARC, Chief Advisor Professor Muhammad Yunus said, if South Asian leaders meet every year, stand together and take pictures, then the message goes to the whole world that we are together. It will present South Asian countries to the world in a positive light.
He said these things in a meeting with a delegation of the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation Oncology (SFO) on Thursday (December 12) morning. He joined the meeting through video conference from the Chief Advisor’s residence in Jamuna.
At the same time, the Chief Advisor paid tribute to the contribution of Professor Dr. ABMF Karim, founder of the SAARC Federation of Oncologists (SFO) and mentioned his experience of interacting with him personally.
During this, Professor Yunus remembered his younger brother, prominent writer, journalist, critic and renowned television personality Muhammad Jahangir. He shared the experiences of the suffering his entire family had to go through during his brother’s cancer diagnosis and treatment. At that time, Dr. Karim also mentioned how he helped in his treatment.
He said, ‘We are still not getting the technical support we need in cancer treatment. The fact that SAARC is giving special importance to cancer treatment is very urgent and inspiring.’
Stating that South Asian countries will benefit from activating SAARC, the Chief Advisor said, ‘SAARC is very important to me. I spoke about activating SAARC immediately after taking oath as Chief Advisor. SAARC is not being active due to some issues between India and Pakistan. I think that other countries should not be influenced by the problems of two countries. If South Asian leaders meet every year, stand together and take pictures, it sends a message to the whole world that we are together. This will present South Asian countries in a positive light to the world and help them move forward.’
In today’s conference, Chief Advisor Dr. Muhammad Yunus once again called on South Asian countries to activate SAARC.
