The Bangladesh Agricultural Research Council (BARC) held a review meeting on September 18, 2025 to plan for the upcoming 2025-26 Rabi season. The focus was on implementing the 'Khamari' mobile app's fertilizer recommendations for potato demonstration plots across 25 districts. The Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) reported significant success with the app in the current Aman season.

According to Mr. Md. Obaydur Rahman Mondal, Director of the DAE's Field Wing, the 'Khamari' app was used by over 72,000 farmers on more than 16,000 hectares of land. This led to a remarkable savings of 2,284 metric tons of chemical fertilizer, including urea, DAP, and MOP. Mondal noted that reducing fertilizer use by 20-25% could save the government 4 to 5 thousand crore taka annually in subsidies for rice cultivation only.

He stated that wider use of the app for potato and Boro crops could lead to even greater savings, benefiting both farmers by lowering costs and the nation by saving foreign currency.

Dr. Nazmun Nahar Karim, the Executive Chairman of BARC, praised the app for its dual benefits: increasing farmer profits and protecting soil health and the environment. She urged the DAE to take the lead in promoting the app's use. The meeting also highlighted that following the 'Khamari' app's recommendations for potato cultivation could generate an additional profit of approximately 17,000 taka per hectare for farmers through reduced costs and increased yield.
