A group of armed miscreants allegedly attacked and partially bulldozed an under-construction RAB camp in Chattogram’s Jungle Salimpur early Monday, while digging up roads and culverts to obstruct law enforcement operations in the area.

The attack took place around 2am in the Alinagar area of Sitakunda, where members of the notorious “Yasin Bahini” reportedly opened fire on the camp, according to Rapid Action Battalion (RAB).

RAB-7 Commanding Officer Lieutenant Colonel Hafizur Rahman said law enforcers returned fire in self-defence after coming under sudden attack.

“To block reinforcements, the attackers excavated roads and damaged culverts at several points,” he said, adding that members of RAB, police and APBn later launched a joint drive and brought the situation under control despite communication disruptions and difficult access.

At least 20–25 people were detained for questioning during the operation. Authorities said legal action would be taken against anyone found directly involved in the attack.

RAB officials claimed nearly 70 percent of the under-construction joint forces camp was vandalised. Several members of the forces sustained minor injuries, though no deaths were reported.

Videos shared by RAB officials showed roads in the remote Jungle Salimpur area dug up to prevent vehicles from entering, forcing law enforcers to continue parts of the অভিযান on foot.

Jungle Salimpur, a long-troubled area spread across around 3,100 acres of government land, has for decades remained under the influence of land grabbers and armed groups. Authorities say the Yasin Bahini, believed to have 200–250 members, continues to operate there despite repeated crackdowns.

Earlier this year, a massive joint operation involving around 3,200 members of the army, RAB, police and BGB also faced resistance, including blocked roads and destroyed culverts.

Law enforcement agencies say top figures, including Yasin Bahini chief Md Yasin and Rokon Bahini leader Rokon Uddin, are still absconding.

The latest violence comes months after RAB Deputy Assistant Director Motaleb Hossain was killed in an attack in the same area in January.
