Several expatriate Bangladeshis have been arrested in different areas of Saudi Arabia for organizing and participating in meetings and gatherings without the permission of the relevant authorities in violation of Saudi laws, the Bangladesh Embassy in the capital Riyadh said in a press release.

Quoting Saudi law enforcement, the release further said that recently it has been observed that expatriate Bangladeshis are renting halls, recreation centers, hotels and restaurants in different places and holding various types of events including meetings and gatherings in their homes without the permission of the authorities under the banner of various organizations, which is against the laws of Saudi Arabia.

The embassy authorities have advised expatriates to refrain from organizing and participating in such events.  It is worth mentioning that several Bangladeshis have been arrested and tried in Saudi Arabia due to fights and clashes between leaders and activists of Bangladeshi political party branches.

Such activities in violation of the law are tarnishing the image of Bangladesh in the country, so the general expatriates believe that it is important for the Bangladesh Embassy in Saudi Arabia and the Bangladesh government to take strict action in this regard, otherwise they fear that about three million Bangladeshis living in Saudi Arabia may be in danger because of a few Bangladeshis. It is worth mentioning that political activities are a punishable crime in Saudi Arabia.
