Police have arrested three people with 80 litres of locally distilled liquor in Matarbari of Maheshkhali upazila in Cox’s Bazar.
The arrests were made during a joint operation by police and local village police members in front of Bouyer Jwala Hotel, east of Natun Bazar on Matarbari’s main road, on Sunday afternoon.
Police said a team led by Maheshkhali Police Station Officer-in-Charge Abdus Sultan, under the direction of the Cox’s Bazar superintendent of police, was conducting a special checkpoint operation under the leadership of Sub-Inspector Mojaher.
During the operation, police signalled a CNG-run vehicle carrying the liquor to stop and searched it, recovering 80 litres of locally distilled liquor and arresting the three occupants.
The arrested men were identified as Monzur Ali, 26, son of Ali of Khuniapalong in Ramu; Mohammad Riaz, 24, son of Kamal Uddin of Tungar Deba in Ramu; and Salamat Ullah, 32, son of Md Belal of Marichya-Haldiapalong in Ukhia.
