An unexpected situation involving relatives of passengers and security personnel at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport was brought under control after Ansar and Bangladesh Air Force members jointly intervened, officials said.
The incident occurred at around 1:20am on Monday in the Canopy-02 area of the airport during the C-shift security duty.
According to an account of the incident, a relative of a passenger attempted to enter the airport premises through the arrival gate despite security instructions. Members of the Bangladesh Air Force and Ansar deployed there stopped the person in line with airport security protocols and access-control measures.
The situation became tense when the individual allegedly attempted to bypass the security personnel and force his way inside. At one point, he fell to the floor.
Several relatives who had arrived to receive passengers began recording the incident on their mobile phones. Following a request from Air Force personnel to stop recording for security reasons, the individuals reportedly became agitated and engaged in an argument with the Ansar members on duty.
The situation escalated when some of the agitated individuals allegedly attempted to attack the Ansar personnel. The security members took necessary preventive measures in self-defence.
As tensions grew, several relatives gathered around the Ansar personnel at Canopy-02. Air Force and Ansar members then worked together to bring the situation under control and maintain security and order in the area.
The agitated individuals eventually left the scene as security personnel focused on restoring order, maintaining passenger services and ensuring a safe environment at the airport.
Three Ansar personnel on duty — PC Habibur Rahman, Ansar member Md Nuruzzaman and Ansar member Md Sadekul — sustained minor injuries during the incident. Parts of their uniforms were also torn.
Despite their injuries, the security personnel continued performing their duties to maintain overall security, discipline and public safety at the airport.
The Bangladesh Ansar and Village Defence Force regularly provides security at key installations, including airports and other strategic and public-service facilities across the country. Its members are responsible for access control, maintaining order and supporting public safety while implementing security protocols.
Security authorities have stressed that passengers and their relatives should follow airport security instructions and cooperate with personnel on duty, particularly at sensitive facilities such as airports. Maintaining discipline, restraint and cooperation is essential to ensuring the safety and security of passengers and airport operations.
