The Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) conducted an eviction drive in Mirpur on Wednesday to clear roads and footpaths of illegal structures, shops and hawkers.

The drive, led by DNCC Executive Magistrate Marufa Begum Neli, began at around 9:00am and covered the area from Shah Ali Market in Mirpur-1 to Sony Square in Mirpur-2.

During the one-and-a-half-hour operation, illegal structures and roadside shops occupying both sides of the roads and footpaths were removed. Unauthorized advertising billboards and unipole signs were also dismantled. A large quantity of goods from the evicted shops was seized by DNCC authorities.

To maintain law and order, 30 members of Dhaka Metropolitan Ansar Battalion (41 BN), representing different ranks, were deployed under the direction of the Dhaka Metropolitan Ansar West Zone Commander. Dhaka Metropolitan Police personnel also participated in the operation alongside Ansar Battalion members, in the presence of the Mirpur Thana Ansar-VDP Officer.

The operation concluded without any untoward incident. Authorities said the drive has significantly reduced encroachment on footpaths that had long caused inconvenience to pedestrians.

Bangladesh Ansar and Village Defence Force said its battalion members remain ready to support government initiatives aimed at preventing public suffering and ensuring public safety and welfare.
