A kit box containing relief materials was distributed today among families of children affected by the recent fire in the Korail slum of Mohakhali in the capital, organized by the Ministry of Social Welfare. Social Welfare Advisor Sharmin S Murshid was present as the chief guest at the event.
At the event, the Social Welfare Advisor said, the government is trying its best to alleviate the suffering of the families affected by the fire. We have started emergency assistance activities immediately to ensure the safety, education and nutrition of children in particular. These kit boxes will help them cope with the temporary crisis.
He said, as per the instructions of the Honorable Chief Advisor, initiatives have been taken to list each affected family and bring them under the rehabilitation and social security net. The Ministry of Social Welfare is working at the field level so that no one is neglected.
The advisor distributed kit boxes among 2000 (two thousand) children affected by the fire.
The kit boxes included mosquito nets, food items, water jars, toothpaste and brushes, towels, flashlights, blankets and other daily necessities. At the event, the social welfare advisor spoke to the affected families and assured them of the speedy implementation of rehabilitation activities.
The advisor emphasized on ensuring that the children's education is not disrupted and said that assistance will be provided to the children through the Social Welfare Council in arranging books, notebooks, pens and school uniforms.
He said that the Ministry of Public Works is working to provide major assistance such as building houses, the Ministry of Religion, the Ministry of Disaster Management and other ministries are working on the damage to the mosque.
He said that with everyone's contribution, all concerned will come forward to help the victims of this fire. The families affected by the fire commented that the government's relief activities are a relief and expressed their hope for assistance in quickly returning to normal life.
At this time, Secretary of the Ministry of Social Welfare Dr. Mohammad Abu Yusuf, Director General of the Department of Social Services Md. Saidur Rahman Khan, Head of UNICEF's Child Protection Department Natalie McCauley, National Project Director of the CSPB Project Md. Sadiqul Haque and other concerned officials were present.
