A doa mahfil was held in memory of renowned educationist, distinguished engineer, former Vice-Chancellor of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) and Professor of the Department of Mechanical Engineering and former President of Bangladesh Society of Mechanical Engineers (BSME) Professor Dr. Engineer Mosharraf Hossain Khan (M. H. Khan).
This doa mahfil was organized at the Council Building of BUET on Saturday evening (25 July 2026) at the initiative of Bangladesh Society of Mechanical Engineers (BSME).
Presenting at the event, BUET Pro-Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. M. H. Khan spoke, recalling the colorful career of the late Professor, his outstanding contribution to the field of education and engineering, and his important role towards the country and the nation.
Muhammad Shariful Islam, President of BSME and former professor of Mechanical Engineering Department of BUET and former Vice Chancellor of IUT and Ahsanullah University of Science and Technology Professor Dr. Muhammad Fazli Elahi, Professor Dr. AKM Sadrul Islam, Professor of Mechanical Engineering Department of BUET Dr. Muha. Mahbubur Razzak and Professor Dr. Mohammad Ali.
In addition, former professor of Mechanical Engineering Department of BUET Dr. Deepak Kanti Das, former professor of Civil Engineering Department Dr. Shamimuzzaman Basunia, former professor of PMRE Department Dr. M. Tamim and Engineer Nadima Jahan Tania reminisced.
The speakers said that Professor Dr. M. H. Khan was a wise educationist, distinguished engineer and exemplary personality. With his demise, the nation has lost a visionary educationist and an extraordinary engineer. His death is an irreparable loss to the country's engineering education, higher education and professional society.
The speakers also said that Professor Dr. M. H. Khan has made outstanding contributions to various fields of education, engineering and administration in his long career.
He taught in the Department of Mechanical Engineering of Bangladesh University of Engineering for 35 years. During his career, he served with great reputation and efficiency as the Head of the Department, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Vice-Chancellor of BUET from 1987 to 1991. Later, in 1995, he took charge as the founding Vice-Chancellor of Ahsanullah University of Science and Technology (AUST) and made an important contribution to building the institutional foundation of the university.
Apart from this, he played important roles in various National Education Commissions and committees related to technical development and played an important role in the development of higher education and engineering education in the country as a member of the Bangladesh University Grants Commission (UGC) from 1991 to 1995.
Professor Dr. Engineer M. H. Khan was a visionary educationist and engineer, rich in knowledge, wisdom, honesty and moral values. His dedication, leadership qualities and contribution will be remembered for a long time in the engineering community and higher education arena of the country. In his personal life, he was also humble, polite, humane and philanthropic.
His gentle behavior and human qualities made him highly respected and loved by his colleagues, students and well-wishers. It is worth mentioning that Professor Dr. Engineer Mosharraf Hossain Khan (M. H. Khan) passed away on 07 July 2026 AD at 4:00 am while undergoing treatment at BIRDEM General Hospital in Dhaka (Inna Lillahi wa Inna Ilaihi Rajiun). He was 93 years old at the time of his death. In the prayer mahfil, forgiveness was sought for the departed soul and deep condolences and sincere sympathy were expressed to his bereaved family members.
