The Rajshahi City Corporation (RCC) on Sunday handed over 155 state-of-the-art CCTV cameras to the Rajshahi Metropolitan Police (RMP) to strengthen public safety, prevent crime, improve traffic management and build a digitally secured city.
The handover ceremony was held at the conference room of the RMP Commissioner's Office, where RCC Administrator Md Mahfuzur Rahman Riton formally handed over the surveillance cameras to RMP Commissioner Mohammad Faizul Kabir.
Speaking at the event, Mahfuzur Rahman Riton said the city corporation was working to implement the directives of Prime Minister Tarek Rahman and ensure improved civic services. He said the installation of modern CCTV cameras was aimed at enhancing the safety and security of city residents.
"We want to carry out development initiatives based on the needs of the people. Ensuring public safety is one of our top priorities, and the city corporation will continue to extend all necessary support to the Rajshahi Metropolitan Police," he said.
RMP Commissioner Mohammad Faizul Kabir said the advanced surveillance system would play a significant role in both preventive and detective policing.
"The installation of CCTV cameras at 155 key locations across the city will further strengthen public security, improve traffic management and help make Rajshahi a safer and more orderly metropolitan city," he said, thanking the RCC administrator for the initiative.
Among others, RCC Chief Executive Officer Md Rezaul Karim, Secretary Sohel Rana, Superintending Engineer Khairul Bakar, Acting Superintending Engineer Ahmad Al Moeen Parag, Executive Magistrate Nazmul Alam and Executive Engineer (Electrical) ABM Asaduzzaman Sweet attended the programme.
On behalf of the RMP, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Sadar) Mohammad Khorshed Alam, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Motihar) Mainul Islam and Additional Superintendent of Police (CTSB) Md Abul Kalam Sahid were present. The programme was moderated by Deputy Commissioner of Police (CTTC) Md Gaziur Rahman.
According to officials, the CCTV cameras will be installed at major roads, intersections and public gathering points across Rajshahi. The surveillance network is expected to enhance round-the-clock monitoring, assist in crime prevention, improve law enforcement and traffic control, and facilitate quicker responses during emergencies.
