4 corruption cases filed against former MD and DMD of Al-Arafah Bank

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has filed four separate cases against four people, including former managing director of Al-Arafah Islami Bank, Farman R. Chowdhury, former DMD Mohammad Nadeem, on charges of embezzlement.
A senior ACC official said that the agency’s deputy director Azizul Haque filed the cases as the plaintiff at the ACC’s Dhaka Integrated District Office on Sunday (November 30).
Summary of the cases
1st case-embezzlement of Tk 1 crore 44 lakh 80 thousand.
The charges against former MD Farman R. Chowdhury and DMD/CFO Mohammad Nadeem are that they embezzled a total of Tk 14.48 crore by accepting various benefits in addition to their salaries, violating the terms of their appointment letters from 2019 to January 2025.
2nd case - Irregularities of Tk 85 lakh from GL account The same two officials have been accused in this case as well.
According to the complaint, they personally embezzled Tk 8.5 million by withdrawing it from the General Ledger (GL) account through various vouchers.
Case 3 - Loss to the government by not paying source tax
The accused in the third case are:
Farman R. Chowdhury (Former MD), Mohammad Nadeem (Former DMD), Mohammad Fazlur Rahman Chowdhury (Deputy Managing Director), Abed Ahmed Khan (Former Deputy Managing Director). The complaint states that the 10% source tax imposed on the Agent Banking Commission-a total of more than Tk 361.1 million 6 thousand-has not been deposited into the government treasury, resulting in an equivalent revenue loss.
4th case - Receiving additional bonuses
In the fourth case, former MDs Farman R. Chowdhury and Mohammad Nadeem have been accused of abusing their power and withdrawing a bonus of Tk 5,380,400 beyond their entitlement.
Legal clause
All four cases have been filed under Sections 409/109 of the Penal Code and Section 5(2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1947.
