The Bangladesh Bridges Authority (BBA) has announced temporary traffic diversions at the Karnaphuli Tunnel (Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Tunnel) to facilitate essential routine maintenance work.
The diversions will be in effect from April 24 to April 29, 2026. According to a press release issued on Thursday by the Ministry of Road Transport and Bridges, the controlled traffic movement will occur nightly between 11:00 PM and 5:00 AM. Traffic will be diverted through either the ‘Patenga to Anwara’ or ‘Anwara to Patenga’ tube as needed.
Depending on the volume of traffic, commuters may experience brief delays at both ends of the tunnel, ranging from 5 to 10 minutes. The temporary measures are necessary to ensure the safe and effective execution of scheduled technical maintenance. The Bangladesh Bridges Authority expressed its appreciation to the public for their patience and cooperation during this period to ensure the long-term safety and efficiency of the tunnel operations.
